GOLDEN DOWA ECO-SYSTEM MYANMAR participates in the Minamata Initial Assessment Working Group
GOLDEN DOWA ECO-SYSTEM MYANMAR (inside the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar) has been a member of the Minamata Initial Assessment Working Group (MIAWG).
MIAWG has been established by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC), Myanmar, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as part of the project to prepare the Minamata Initial Assessment (MIA) and National Action Plan (NAP) for Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining in Myanmar. This project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), will run until December 2021 and generate national baselines and core plans for mercury management in Myanmar.
As part of this project, GOLDEN DOWA ECO-SYSTEM MYANMAR participated "Capacity Building Training" which was mainly organized by MONREC and UNEP in Naypyidaw, February (24-27) 2020. We presented how we are handling both hazardous and non-hazardous waste as a private waste management company and we also learned the UNEP’s Toolkit to be applied for identification and quantification of mercury releases in Myanmar as a part of MIA report.
This training aims to provide key national stakeholders in Myanmar with the scientific and technical knowledge and tools needed for the preparation of MIA and NAP including UNEP's Toolkit for identification and quantification of mercury releases and the NAP guidance documents.
We are delighted to support the project as a private company, which will greatly contribute to an improvement of hazardous substance management in Myanmar.
We will continue to solve the environmental problems that exist due to the development of Asia and will help to create a sustainable society.
