BPEC Expands Fluorocarbon Destruction Process Project in Thailand
Bangpoo Environmental Complex Co., Ltd. (BPEC, Samutprakarn, Thailand) will expand its fluorocarbon destruction process using waste incineration and thermal energy recovery facilities.
Fluorocarbons are essential as coolants, but they are greenhouse gases and efforts are underway globally to replace them with alternatives, reduce their use, and dispose them properly.
Using incineration and thermal energy recovery facilities that can also process hazardous wastes, BPEC had quickly undertaken a fluorocarbon destruction process in Thailand. This time, as a new initiative, BPEC has embarked on the Eco-Friendly Destruction of Seized Refrigerant Project, whereby Tradewater issues carbon offset credits for fluorocarbons that have undergone the destruction process of BPEC. To commemorate the launch of this project, guests—from the relevant ministries and government agencies of Thailand and Japan as well as customers—were invited to a ceremony held on November 30, 2022, where they offered many words of encouragement. In addition, BPEC expects an annual reduction of 10,000 tons (CO2 equivalent) in greenhouse gas emissions under the bilateral crediting project supported by the Government of Japan. On January 17, 2023, Japan’s Minister of the Environment Akihiro Nishimura inspected BPEC while on a visit to Thailand.
The DOWA Group will continue to promote the strengthening of its environmental and recycling services—which include the appropriate processing of waste, recycling, and initiatives for carbon neutrality—and contribute toward building a sustainable society.
